Argentina Opens Citrus and Beef Exports to Ecuador

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation has announced the opening of the Ecuadorian market for the export of lemon, sweet citrus (orange, tangerine, and grapefruit), and bone-in beef. This announcement came after a meeting in Buenos Aires between the President of SENASA, Pablo Cortese, and the Executive Director of the Ecuadorian Agency for Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control, Patricio Almeida. During the meeting, work plans for these operations were agreed upon, and the necessary health certificate for the export of Argentine beef was established.

The Ecuadorian Agency for Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control informed about the completion of pest risk analysis for lemon and sweet citrus. In collaboration with SENASA, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, and the Foreign Ministry, technical exchanges were carried out to define the phytosanitary requirements necessary for the export of these products.

During the year 2024, SENASA has certified the export of 260,649 tons of fresh citrus, of which 44,561 tons were destined for South American countries such as Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile. As for bone-in beef, a total of 106,251 tons has been certified for export, with China being its main destination.
